How to break it to someone that you're not hiphop...

I've run into an old buddy of mine from those days I attended Rocksteady regularly...I've been trying to break it to him that I'm not hiphop...I feel like it's so unoriginal to allow yourself to be perceived that way...And to allow yourself to perceive all others in that light...I'm not brainwashed by hiphop. Deep down, I'm still a punk rocker, plain black sweatshirt, combat boots and all...For instance, some girl at a party in Boston had walked into the room I was in and said, "What have you done for hiphop today?" She asked this question to several people. She could've been a Hari Krishna...It's not that I don't appreciate the roots of hiphop, it's just that I'm sick to death of it...When you break it down, painting could have absolutely no connection to dancing or spinning the turntables or rapping...I hate to break this to people, but sometimes I listen to opera or even country and bluegrass...I love that Hank Williams Sr. and I love Cuban jazz...French Cabaret...I guess I'll just have to shake him and say, "Look here, don't pigeonhole me, mister..."

The fight in the dog...

I was checking out Muhammed Ali's fight statistics. Here's an article on his famous bout with Joe Frasier. Joe Frasier was an Olympic champion and also heavyweight champ the year I was born...When Adam and I were in the garden, he was trying to remember the saying...For Adam Teppell: "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog".

Hines Ward

Hines said he was ashamed of being Korean and after being so embraced by Koreans in Seoul, he apologized for being ashamed...But I understand how he feels. He is the end product of a Korean Mom and a Black American soldier and he grew up with insults within the Korean community 'cuz he was a mixed kid. I grew up without a Dad....

Good to see old friends...

My buddy Lewse came out from Cali and we spent the day hanging out, going to a show at BBKing's Grill in Times Square, Blackalicious, with Fatlip and some other group...Yeah, the show was all right...The crowd was like 15 year olds and college students...The setup for lights and sound and projectors was simple, but pretty tight, the space was pretty cool...I give a thumbs up to BBKings, though the show was actually okay, not amazing...I actually did an interview with Quannum Collective back in 1999 for Subculture Magazine. DJ Shadow was on speakerphone as I sat with Latyrx and Blackalicious...Two of the freshest albums to come out, I think, are the project DJ Shadow did with Dan the Automator and original movie music, "Bombay the Hard Way I: The Good, The Bad, and the Chutney and Bombay the Hard Way: Electric Vindaloo..." They've been out for awhile, but they're still in rotation in my music collection...
